Do you have an illness or medical condition and suspect food may play a role? Have you tried all different kinds of medications, treatments or elimination diets and nothing seems to help? Maybe you’re suffering from chronic diarrhea or other gut issues, migraines, skin conditions, or maybe you’re just always feeling sick and tired.
Is your food making you sick?
A food sensitivity is a type of immune reaction to specific foods or food chemicals. It causes immune cells to release inflammatory chemicals called mediators when the offending food is eaten. These chemical mediators are the direct cause of symptoms, including pain, fatigue and inflammation. Because symptoms can show up hours or even days after eating the food you are sensitive to, it can be very difficult to identify using a food diary or on your own. Also, sensitivities don’t only develop with the foods you might think, like wheat, dairy or eggs. Many people show up as reactive to foods like turmeric, lentils or spinach, so it’s highly unlikely you’d figure it out using any popular elimination diets.
Because these inflammatory chemicals can have an effect all over the body, there are many conditions associated with food sensitivities that have been effectively been treated by testing for sensitivities, removing reactive foods and following an individualized healing plan:
- Inflammatory arthritis
- Celiac disease
- Hashimotos and other thyroid conditions
- Chronic rhinitis and sinusitis
- Unexplained weight gain
- Skin conditions, like psoriasis, acne or eczema
- Other autoimmune diseases
Before getting tested I will complete an in depth screening of your symptoms to determine the likelihood your symptoms are related to sensitivities.
How does food sensitivity testing work?
I use a test called Mediator Release Test (MRT), which is the gold standard in food sensitivity testing with the highest degree of accuracy (~95%). MRT is a blood test which examines your reaction to 150 different foods and food chemicals. By measuring the quantity of mediators (those nasty inflammatory chemicals) that are released in response to tested foods, the test is able to show exactly how reactive you are to specific foods.
What is LEAP?
The LEAP Diet is an individualized eating plan based off your MRT results. It’s implemented in five phases, starting by limiting your diet to the least reactive foods and gradually adding in untested foods. By the end, you’ll know exactly what foods trigger your symptoms, and by removing them from your diet, feel much better. In just the first few weeks, you can reduce your symptoms by up to 60-70%. In general, this part of the program lasts 90 days and the most restrictive part, phase 1, usually lasts about 2 weeks. It can be difficult, but we’ll be working together during this time to ensure you know how to create balanced and tasty meals.
Included with MRT/LEAP
- Mediator Release Test (MRT), the gold standard of food sensitivity testing, on 150 different foods and chemicals
- Coordination of your blood sample with free overnight shipping
- 65-page booklet with test results, recipes, shopping and cooking tips, hidden sources of chemicals
- Initial consult to review results, give meal ideas, and develop reintroduction schedule
- 3 follow up sessions over the next 3 months to guide you as you introduce new foods, troubleshoot, support and help stay on track
- This program doesn’t just include food sensitivity testing. In our sessions, we’ll take a big picture look at your health, including stress, movement, sleep, building a healthy relationship with food, and any other non-sensitivity related health issues.
How do I get started?
Wondering if your health issues could be stemming from a food sensitivity and you just want to feel healthy again? Schedule a 30 minute MRT consult with me and we can discuss. During this consultation, I’ll complete a thorough screening of your symptoms to see if you’re a good candidate for MRT/LEAP. This is also a great time to answer any questions or concerns you have about the program. It’s obligation free, so there’s no need to go through with testing if you’re not ready, and I only do the test on people I think will benefit. The fee for your initial appointment is just $35, which is taken off the price of your MRT testing package if you decide to proceed.
